Bour, Krisna, "Living Phantom Final Photos," Winter 2020. The goal of Living Phantoms was to create a square tent-like-structure inspired by the kaaba that’s occupied by bodies. The bodies would consist of live bodies among three set figure that are meant to look like female Muslim bodies. Along with some sort of live performance there would be a soundscape with a repeated phrase. The project was inspired by the phrase, “Muslim women aren’t even icons, they’re just ghosts.”
As part of the documentation team I was in charge of taking and editing photos. I was supposed to take more photos when the installation went live. However, my class was unable to complete and present our installation since the start of COVID-19. The photos are important as they document the group class effort and preserve the memories that were made.
Bour, Krisna, "Photo Editing," Winter 2020. A useful editing skill that was taught during class. This skill was later used in other photo-based assignments outside of this class.
Since I used digital art programs for my art I knew my way around these programs. However, on my own, I never learned what certain specific tools did. This lesson was beneficial as it made me understand and furthered my editing knowledge.
Bour, Krisna, "Final Project" Winter 2020. A series of photos that tell one unifying story. It's a tale of a stuffed bear going through its lifecycle. Each picture tells a different part of the bear's life. This first picture shows hows it became a present and the end of the story shows how it was discarded at the end.
I was very uncertain about taking this class as I don't personally own a camera, but luckily the UWB library had cameras in stock to check out. As an interesting coincidence during this quarter I was also taking my Contemporary Muslim Artists class in the the same quarter. In that class I volunteered to be the photographer, so I was able to use what I learned in practical use.
Bour, Krisna, "Artist Statement" Winter 2020. This is the artist statement attached to the Final project photo series. It lists my journey and struggles of this photo project.
I thought it was important to share my artist statement along with the photo series. Photography was a fun, yet challenging subject for me and this statement reminds me of the chaotic time that I experienced.
Bour, Krisna, "Are You There?," Spring 2019. The first iteration of Are You There? and my first writing assignment for my Intro to Creative Writing class. My peers reviewed and critiqued my story which was then revised later for my chapbook.
One of my biggest flaws in writing is that I don’t change much when I edit. I mostly fix grammar and spelling mistakes. However, this story was slightly rewritten for my chapbook which I consider a personal feat.
Bour, Krisna, "Final Creative Piece & Three Revisions," Spring 2019. For my Into to Creative Writing class, our final project was to create one new short story and revise three previously written stories. Each story is based on a different writing style.
I’m not much of a writer, but this class made me enjoy writing. This small collection of stories reminds me how fun creative writing can be.
Bour, Krisna, "Public Performance," Autumn 2019. As a group project, for our final project we needed to perform a public performance that utilizes the use of written materials. Earlier we learned that written works can be in many forms such as a hack of another piece of work or even as tarot cards.
Our group wanted to address the idea of campus social isolation and wanted our performance to be welcoming and participatory. I dislike talking to strangers, especially when it comes to making them engage on what I’m trying to sell to them. However, I pushed through and was able to complete the performance. Since I knew that I would have difficulties in the actual performace I made sure to participate behind the scenes. I'm much better at organizing our task lists and making sure that my group members ideas and voices were heard in the planning process. Bour, Krisna, "A Batch of Four" Autumn 2019. For my Prose class, one of our final projects was to collect our short stories and print them out to make a physical chapbook. We would then choose one piece of writing to read out loud to the class as an open mic session.
Admittedly, I have no fond feelings for this chapbook. I had an issue on how the class was structured and the type of assignments we were doing. Even though I had creative control over my stories I restricted on the style of stories I wanted to write.
Baker, Sarah, "Chapbook Template," Winter 2019. The format of what An Assimilation of Various Dream-Like Thoughts should look like as a chapbook. Bour, Krisna, "An Assimilation of Various Dream-Like Thoughts," Winter 2019 For my Advance Creative Writing class, our final project was to collect our short stories and print them out to make a physical chapbook. I have assembled four short stories that I believed represents the idea of "dreams'' in the broadest sense.
My original chapbook was printed out and binded, but for the purpose of this online portfolio I have uploaded my stories digitally. I believe that the content in this chapbook best reflects my skills in creative storytelling. Bour, Krisna, "Self-Portraits," Autumn 2019. A series of three charcoal drawings. They are self-portraits made to look ugly in response to the growing trend of the idea that one should look their best on social media.
I never used charcoal before for a big final drawing project. I always thought of charcoal as a sketching or informal medium. This project helped me appreciate charcoal’s uses a bit more. Bour, Krisna, "Portfolio of Actions," Autumn 2019. These are three 5 minute long video recordings of me doing a public action. The purpose was to do one repeatable action in public for 5 minutes long. I chose to spin in place as I'm somewhat self-conscious and I didn't want to do anything complicated.
This class pushed my personal social boundaries a little bit as I do not like doing abnormal things in the public eye. Though my action is modest compared to others it’s a type of action that I wouldn't want to do again. This mini project did help me gain some sort of confidence to be more out there.
